The only numbers we will use
Public replacement ranges as of 30 August 2026: Hybrid CPR recon about ~$950; NexPower GT2 list $1,350–$1,890; Green Bean most Prius installs $1,349–$1,949 installed; Greentec reman / new cells ~$1,399 / ~$2,099; dealer-style $3,500–$5,000+ to $4,501–$4,694.
We do not have a sourced 2026 trade-in or private-party average for a 150,000- or 200,000-mile Prius. Those figures move by rust belt, title status, and whether the car still drives. Anyone giving you a single national “worth” on a blog is guessing. Including us, if we tried.
A simple keep / sell test
- Get the car diagnosed. If it is the 12-volt, this page does not apply. Symptoms.
- Price the pack path you would actually use — not the dealer number if you would never pay it.
- Add the other work you already know about: rust holes, inversion of the inverter, tires, a transaxle that shudders, airbags. Unknown here; use your own list.
- Call two places that buy high-mileage Priuses as-is (a dismantler and a private-party “needs battery” listing). The spread between “car plus pack” and “sell today” is your answer.
When replacement usually still pencils
- Body and underside are honest. Rust is the silent deal-killer.
- You need a car, not a project, and this one is otherwise paid for.
- The path is closer to ~$950–$1,900 than to $4,501–$4,694.
- You will keep it long enough to use the warranty you just bought.
When selling or scrapping is the adult move
- Structural rust, flood, or a branded title plus a dead pack.
- A dealer quote at $3,500–$5,000+ on a car that would sell as-is for less than the tax on that job. We will not invent that as-is number; you can get it in an afternoon.
- You do not want any relationship with an HV pack, DIY or mobile.
Scrap value and “needs engine / battery” wholesale prices are local. Unknown nationally on this site.
150k versus 200k is not a moral difference
Prius drivetrains regularly outlive the original pack. 200,000 miles is not a death sentence; it is a reminder to look at everything else. A clean 210k Gen 2 with a $1,400 reman can be more rational than a pretty 140k with a rotten rear subframe. Mileage is the easy number. Condition is the real one.
